My original training was in dance and musical theatre in my 20’s and in gym based fitness in my 30’s.
I trained to lead seated exercise classes for seniors with arthritis in 2006 and have been leading the Kilbirnie class weekly since then. My training was with Kathy Johnson, the arthritis educator and started out with her routines. We’re still using some of those now, but the range of songs we use is now over 200. Each week has a different combination to keep it interesting.
I learnt Spin Poi and became a certified instructor in 2020. Over lockdown, I started a Zoom class, which is still going. I also teach live classes regularly.
I’ve recently added line dancing to my interests and attend classes every week. Currently (early 2024), I’m filling in for one of the local teachers, and leading a Beginners class in Karori each Friday.
I’ve always loved music, dance and any kind of movement to music and bring that flavour to my classes. Feel free to add your own style to any of the movements we use, and if you want to sing along with the music, that’s great too.
