If there&#8217;s anything else you can&#8217;t find, ask us.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Your base liquid. Choose from one or a combination of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Full fat milk, raw if possible, NOT homogenised<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Yoghurt or kefir, diluted to a milk like consistency<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">1\/3 to \u00bd cup full fat coconut cream, diluted<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">a couple of Tablespoons of creamed coconut (coconut butter), dissolved in water<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">1\/3 to \u00bd cup nuts or seeds, soaked overnight then drained, plus \u00bd cup water<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00bd ripe avocado, plus \u00bd cup water. This is nice with a vegetable smoothie. Not as\u00a0good with a fruit or chocolate one, but OK if mixed with coconut cream, or when combined with banana.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Extra fat (if your metabolic type needs it). A slosh of one or more of these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Cream (or you can even use cream as the base instead of milk)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Coconut cream or coconut oil<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Flax seed oil (1 tsp, maximum)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Extra protein (if required, or desired, especially if your base is avocado or coconut):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">2-3 raw egg yolks (best)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturefoods.co.nz\/other-foods\/gelatin\">Gelatin<\/a> or Great Lakes collagen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturefoods.co.nz\/other-foods\/gelatin\/greatlakes-hydrolysate\">hydrolysate<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Whey protein powder to provide 20-30g protein (as a compromise food sometimes, if you can\u2019t have egg yolks, or if you are vegetarian and struggle to get enough protein)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Add flavouring of your choice from the below variations<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Fruit Smoothie<\/h4>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">To your base smoothie, add fruit of choice, chopped or grated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Berries<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Stone fruit<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00bd an apple or pear<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Small amount tropical fruit such as mango or pineapple, if this suits your metabolic type. (Really nice with a coconut cream base)<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Some people can use banana (see below** to see if you\u2019re one of them) \u2013 best with a coconut cream or avcado base, as banana and dairy together can be hard to digest.<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Just about any fruit really, but make sure you use the whole fruit, not just juice<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Optional extras:\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Colloidal or ionic minerals eg\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturefoods.co.nz\/supplements\/minerals\/mri-mineral-drops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CMD liquid<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Cinnamon, ginger or other spices to flavour. In the winter, ginger is very beneficial.<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Bee pollen<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Acerola, camu camu or Vitamin C powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>** NZers eat more bananas than any other country, but most of us do not have the right ancestry to eat large amounts of tropical fruit. I know several people who can\u2019t eat bananas and I suspect we have a large incidence of unsuspected food intolerances to them. If you\u2019re on a starch free diet, you may be able to tolerate them if very ripe. If you&#8217;re on FODMAPS, they must be firm. If you\u2019re on a carb controlled diet, you can\u2019t have them anyway. But if you tolerate higher carbs, do a mini elimination diet. Eat no bananas for a week, then eat one. If you have no reactions (eg headache, stomach ache), you can use them in moderation \u2013 up to 3 a week. Only eat organic ones, grown as close to where you live as possible.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Chocolate \u201cmilk\u201d shake<\/h4>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Yes, you really can make a chocolate shake without dairy. To your base smoothie, add:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">About a tsp of cocoa or carob, preferably organic<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Some added fruit, such as \u00bd a banana &#8211; OR &#8211; a small amount of coconut sugar or nectar, maple syrup,\u00a0honey or other natural sweetener of your choice.<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Optional extras:\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Any of the fruit smoothie extras<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">1 dash of vanilla or orange essence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Raw Vegetable smoothie<\/h4>\n<p class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">This is a good choice, if you prefer something savoury in the morning, but don&#8217;t want to cook. Or if you find it hard to get your veggies in during the day. Or if you have family members who won\u2019t eat vegetables. To your base smoothie add:<\/p>\n<p>Any combination of vegetables of choice, chopped or grated. Aim for a variety of colours:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Tomato<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Carrot and\/or beetroot<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Baby spinach or other soft greens (But not kale, and don&#8217;t eat uncooked greens\u00a0too often, as they\u00a0contain oxalic acid)<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">OR \u00bd &#8211; 1 scoop green drink (eg. spirulina, barley grass, or combinations. Check for ones that don\u2019t have processed items such as soy protein or sweeteners included)<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Optional extras:\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Colloidal or ionic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturefoods.co.nz\/supplements\/minerals\/mri-mineral-drops\">minerals<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00bd an apple (most other fruits don&#8217;t go well in a vege smoothie)<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Lemon juice<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Fresh herbs<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Savoury spices to flavour, such as curry<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\" style=\"text-align: left;\">A pinch of sea salt will enhance the flavour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Pumpkin smoothie<\/h4>\n<p>Another savoury option is to use cooked pumpkin or butternut instead of raw vegetables. This would go nicely with coconut or a nut milk base.
