South
Island - New Zealand
|

A
boat loads of Asian tourists being punted up and down the Avon
River In Christchurch - the strange things they think up to
entertain tourists...
|
A
large fish on the roadside in Rakaia, Canterbury
|

Timaru
is like going back in a time warp
|

Oamaru is a bit bleak but the old end is pretty unique
|

Larnach
Castle in Dunedin was built by a mad family of Scotties to defend
themselves from the encroaching thistles - the view from the
tower is great
|
From
the top of the castle looking down to the tip of the Otago peninsula
|

Of
all the amazing old buildings in Dunedin, the railway station
is really something - it doesnt have much in the way of train
services, but it looks awesome!
|

Baldwin
St, Dunedin - world's steepest street (it's in the Guiness Book
of Records) - 1 in 2.8
|

Dunedin
Cathedral - it's big and Gothic, and must have scared the Scotish
settlers into being righteous thistle eaters
|

Nugget
Point - Catlins - from here the horizon goes pretty much all
the way to Antarctica - only sea lions live round here.
|

A
crowded beach in the Catlins - it's a little cool for swimming,
but a great place
|
Gore
is not the backwater its made out to be on TV, it has a cool
art gallery and a big fish.
|

Lake
Te Anau - in between rain at this point |

Mirror
Lakes in Fiordland National Park
|

Mitre Peak in Milford Sound must see more camera gear then a
camera shop, but it's a very photogenic spot
|

A
Milford Sound waterfall - there's some tall ones here, falling
down some of the world's highest sea cliffs
|

Cruising
round Milford Sound, dolphins came and swam round the boat but
my jaw was hanging open and I forgot to take any pics - ths
is right where they were hanging out though...
|

Some
of the roads down south are stunning - it's like driving through
the set of Lord of the Rings - this is Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown
|

Queenstown
- over-developed now, but if you stand with your back to the
ugly apartments, it still has some great sights
|

All
those things they say about the West Coast being wet are true
- (in Milford Sound they get 9000mm of rainfall a year, twice
as much as the Amazon rainforest, and they sometimes have the
entire annual rainfall of England in 3 days !) - this is Lake
Wahapo where droughts are not a problem.
|

The Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki on the West Coast
|

Cape
Foulwind - it's a lot better than it sounds - nice cafe and
not really much windier than Wellington. Check out that Honda
Goldwing 1800 - the South Island is full of classic motorbikes.
