Freeze it instead.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I came across this tip a couple of years ago, and it transformed my use of ginger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.frot.co.nz\/design\/recipes\/files\/2016\/09\/ginger-hack.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1873\" src=\"http:\/\/www.frot.co.nz\/design\/recipes\/files\/2016\/09\/ginger-hack.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.frot.co.nz\/design\/recipes\/files\/2016\/09\/ginger-hack.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.frot.co.nz\/design\/recipes\/files\/2016\/09\/ginger-hack-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used to buy fresh ginger for recipes, and then later throw away the remains in a very sad state. I also always found it difficult to grate up in the fresh state as it\u2019s rather stringy.<\/p>\n<p>There are a bunch of websites out there talking about freezing ginger, but none seem to do it exactly like I do. If you prefer their methods though, go for it!<\/p>\n<p>Since I started doing this, I use ginger a lot more, as it\u2019s always there ready to use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freezing the ginger:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Cut the ginger into large chunks that are reasonably straight and peelable<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Peel the ginger with a vegetable peeler.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Put the chunks into a small snaplock bag<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Squeeze out the air, seal it and throw it into the freezer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turmeric:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The same process works just as well for fresh turmeric, so my bag in the freezer usually has a bit of each.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.frot.co.nz\/design\/recipes\/files\/2016\/09\/Ginger-Peeled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1874 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.frot.co.nz\/design\/recipes\/files\/2016\/09\/Ginger-Peeled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Using the ginger or turmeric:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Take a chunk out of the freezer<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Grate off however much you need<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 I like a microplane grater, but a regular grater will do<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Put the rest back into the freezer<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>This was\u00a0a new post\u00a0that I put together for Steemit.
