Lifestyle
The three main components of the GAPS protocol are:
- Diet and Nutrition
- Supplementation
- Detoxification (covered more in the book)
But there are other lifestyle factors that will also support your healing.
Physical Activity
Although you need to make sure that you’re not exercising to a degree that causes further stress on your system, the right kind of activity can enhance your enjoyment and well-being.
Suitable activities could include:
- Brain Gym ®
- Walking, especially on the beach or anywhere in nature
- Dance classes
- Playing on the jungle gym at the local school playground
- Swimming in the sea, lake or river. A swimming pool that’s fresh water, or ozone treated would also be fine. But avoid pools treated with chemicals.
- Yoga, Pilates or other stretching
Rest and relaxation
This is especially important when going through the Intro, through times of healing crisis, or any other time of physical, personal or family stress.
Be kind and gentle with yourself.
Ask for help from family members.
Make sure you have some time off each day, and do things you enjoy.
Techniques that release stress such as meditation or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) are also beneficial. EFT is especially good for dealing with some of the emotional aspects of GAPS such as feeling deprived.
