Green Pastures products |
|
Sep 15 - There has been some controversy recently about these products. For more information, see our overview here.
Weston Price only used small doses of cod liver oil (about 3/4 of a teaspoon), and not all the time. So we recommend you don't exceed the following doses:
Children - ¼ tsp or 2 caps
Adults - ½ tsp or 5 caps
During the first 6 months of pregnancy, or while breastfeeding - 3/4 tsp or 7-8 caps
If you feel like you don't want any on a given day - this is your body telling you NOT to take it.

Fermented
cod and skate liver oils and High Vitamin butter oil are some of the
best natural sources of Vitamins A, D and K.
Comment from the Weston A Price Foundation on taking Cod liver oil during pregnancy: "IMPORTANT WARNING: Cod liver oil contains substantial levels of omega-3 EPA, which can cause numerous health problems, such as hemorrhaging during the birth process, if not balanced by arachidonic acid (ARA), an omega-6 fatty acid found in liver, egg yolks and meat fats. Please do not add cod liver oil to a diet that is deficient in these important animal foods. It is important to follow our diet for pregnant mothers in its entirety, not just selected parts of it."

Storage
Dave
Wetzel from Green Pastures says:
"Refrigerate
or not to refrigerate, that is the question.
Fermented clo products: The oil is very stable.
In my opinion many can store OPENED jars either way.
If you use the fclo regularly (within a few months)
you can opt to leave in a cupboard after opening.
We do not overly process the oils so some lots
tend to become thicker as the storage temps get colder.
I have seen some really cold refrigerators make a fclo almost Gel."
To
convert %DV/RDA to IU's
To
convert the RDA of vitamin A and vitamin D on the bottle to IU,
you need to know the standard established by the FDA.
Use these to calculate the IUs of any product.
100%
DV/RDA for vitamin A is 5000 IU per day
100% DV/RDA for Vitamin D is 400 IU per day
Why does my oil taste different from previous bottles?
Dave Wetzel says: "The artesian process to make the FCLO provides a wide range of nutrients, colors, flavors, odors and textures. Most already understand the true benefit of FCLO and find ways to work with the variability in the products attributes. It is understood that nature changes the end product most notably by way of what the fish eats. We think we finally have the answer to the variability of odors in the different lots of FCLO. It looks to be the variability in an amine called Tyramine. This amine is most famous for causing the varability in different odors to strong cheeses."
From wikipedia: Tyramine (4-Hydroxyphenethylamine; para-Tyramine; Mydrial, Uteramin) is a naturally-occurringmonoamine compound and trace amine derived from the amino acid tyrosine. Tyramine occurs widely in plants and animals and is metabolized by the enzyme monoamine oxidase. In foods, it is often produced by the decarboxylation of tyrosine during fermentation or decay. Foods containing considerable amounts of tyramine include meats that are potentially spoiled or pickled, aged, smoked, fermented, or marinated (some fish, poultry, and beef); most pork (except cured ham); chocolate; alcoholic beverages; and fermented foods, such as most cheeses (except ricotta, cottage cheese, cream cheese, Neufchatel cheese), sour cream, yogurt, shrimp paste, soy sauce, soy bean condiments, teriyaki sauce, tofu, tempeh, miso soup, sauerkraut; broad (fava) beans, green bean pods, Italian flat (Romano) beans, Chinese (snow) pea pods, avocados, bananas, pineapple, eggplants, figs, red plums, raspberries, peanuts, Brazil nuts, coconuts, processed meat, yeast, and an array of cacti. |

Fermented
Cod Liver Oil (liquid)
The non-capsulated oils are suitable if you can't
take capsules, want a more cost effective option, or feel you
get more benefit from a liquid.
Most
modern cod liver oils have been deodorised, so have a comparatively
mild flavour. Green Pastures™ Fermented CLO is the real thing,
and has a stronger taste. (The good news is you do get used to it.)
Some people find that the lactic acid content makes the back of
the throat tingle. It is helpful to have a mouthful of something
fatty afterwards, like butter oil, butter, yoghurt or Reilly’s
nut butter, to ease the tingle. (We
have tested some ways of taking the oils, and will include a range
of suggestions with your first order.)
2ml liquid gives:
- Vitamin A (approx 70-75%DV)
- Vitamin D (approx 190-215%DV)
Plain:
Flavour & Anti-oxidant free. The
most versatile flavour. Ideal for the person with food sensitivities
who requires a completely additive free product.
Ingredients:
Fermented cod liver oil
Oslo Orange: This has a mild orange flavour and slides down quite easily.
Ingredients: Fermented cod liver oil, orange and lemon oils
Cinnamon Tingle: This is proving very popular with people who like cinnamon.
Ingredients: Fermented cod liver oil, organic cinnamon oil and organic stevia leaf.

Weston
Price found that the benefits of cod liver oil were enhanced by
using butter oil as well. This High-Vitamin Butter Oil is extracted
from dairy milk produced by cows that graze exclusively on irrigated
grass of the Northern Great
Plains. The combination of climate and irrigation produces a rapidly
growingspecialized
forage ensuring optimal levels of Activator X.
Casein
and lactose free!
The
natural grain-free way with which the cows are cared for, combined
with the unique extraction
process ensures this oil is rich in:
- CLA
-
Butyric acid
-
Stearic acid
-
Caproic acid
-
Caprylic/capric acid
-
Myristic acid
-
Lauric acid
-
Oleic acid
-
Palmitic acid
- Wulzen Factor
(the "anti-stiffness" factor)
-
Activator X
- and
Trace vitamins and minerals.
Dave Wetzel advises that Skate Liver Oil contains the same X-Factor that the High Vitamin Butter Oil contains. Most people who react to other dairy can take the butter oil, but the skate gives you an alternative.. |

Blue
Ice Royal
Dr.
Weston A. Price discovered the extreme synergistic effect between
High Vitamin Butter Oil and traditional cod liver oil. "One
without the other did not do his patients justice, but the two together
worked like magic".

X-Factor Gold™ High Vitamin Butter Oil and 2/3 Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil.
The
combination of these attributes provides us with a pure, clean and
nutrient rich food.
2

- Vitamin
D - 90%DV
1/2
tsp gel gives approximately:
